I, NEIL T. BLANEY, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 10 , 11 and 30 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), as extended by the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (First Schedule) (Amendment) Order, 1968 ( S.I. No. 231 of 1968 ), hereby order as follows:-- |

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Poultry, Poultry Carcases, Poultry Eggs and Poultry Products (Restriction on Importation) Order, 1969. |
||
(2) This Order shall come into operation on the first day of October, 1969. |
||
(3) The Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (First Schedule) (Amendment) Order, 1968 ( S.I. No. 231 of 1968 ), and this Order, insofar as it amends the First Schedule to the Act, may be cited together as the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (First Schedule) (Amendment) Orders, 1968 and 1969. |

2. In this Order-- |
||
" the Act " means the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966); |
||
" poultry " means birds of a kind specified in Part II of the First Schedule to the Act as amended by Article 3 of this Order ; |
||
" poultry carcases " means carcases of poultry or parts of carcases of poultry and includes raw feathers ; |
||
" poultry eggs " means eggs of poultry or parts of eggs of poultry whether fresh, dried or otherwise preserved; |
||
" poultry products " means products whether uncooked, cooked or otherwise processed and derived wholly or in part from poultry carcases. |
||
3. For the purposes of this Order the First Schedule to the Act is hereby amended by the substitution of the following for the entries in Part II thereof: |

1. Domestic fowls. |
||
2. Turkeys. |
||
3. Geese. |
||
4. Ducks. |
||
5. Guinea-fowls. |
||
6. Partridges. |
||
7. Pheasants. |
||
8. Grouse. |
||
9. Pigeons. |
||
10. Doves. |
||
11. Peafowl. |
||
12. Swans. |
||
13. Plover. |
||
14. Quail. |
||
15. Owls. |
||
16. Birds of the order Falconiformes, including any of the birds commonly called falcons, eagles, hawks, buzzards, harriers, ospreys, kestrels, kites and vultures." |
||
4. The importation of poultry, poultry carcases, poultry eggs and poultry products is hereby prohibited save under and in accordance with a licence granted in that behalf by the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. |
||
5. The Poultry, Poultry Carcases and Poultry Eggs (Restriction on Importation) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 293 of 1949 ), is hereby revoked. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
This Order prohibits the importation except under licence of poultry, poultry eggs, poultry carcases and products derived wholly or in part from poultry carcases. For purposes of the Order poultry means domestic fowls, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea fowls, partridges, pheasants, grouse, pigeons, doves, peafowl, swans, plover, quail, owls and birds of the order Falconiformes. |

The Order also revokes the Poultry, Poultry Carcases and Poultry Eggs (Restriction on Importation) Order, 1949. |
