I, PATRICK COONEY, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 12 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925) [as adapted by the Public Service (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 294 of 1973 )], and section 1 of the Garda Síochána Act, 1958 (No. 14 of 1958), with the sanction of the Minister for the Public Service and after due compliance with subsection (2) of the said section 12, hereby order as follows:

|
1. This Order may be cited as the Garda Síochána Pay Order, 1975.
|
|
|
2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.
|
|
|
3. In this Order "The Principal Order" means the Garda Síochána Pay (No. 2) Order, 1958 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1958 ).
|
|
|
4. (1) This Order, other than Article 6 shall--
|
|
|
( a ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the First Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1972,
|
|
|
( b ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the Second Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1973,
|
|
|
( c ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the Third Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1973,
|
|
|
( d ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the Fourth Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1973,
|
|
|
( e ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the Fifth Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1974,
|
|
|
( f ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the Sixth Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of December, 1974,
|
|
|
( g ) in relation to the rates and scales set out in the Seventh Schedule hereto, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of March, 1975.
|
|
|
(2) Article 6 of this Order shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 2nd day of October, 1972.
|
|
|
5. The Principal Order shall have effect as if the rates and scales contained in the Schedules to this Order were substituted for the relevant rates and scales [(inserted by the Garda Síochána Pay Order, 1971 ( S.I. No. 146 of 1971 )),] contained in Article 4.
|
|
|
6. Article 12 of the Principal Order is hereby amended by--
|
|
|
( a ) the substitution for paragraph (a) of the following:
|
|
|
"( a ) in every case to a pension deduction of such amount as may be determined by the Minister with the concurrence of the Minister for the Public Service;", and
|
|
|
( b ) the substitution for paragraph (c) of the following:
|
|
|
"( c ) to such stoppages in respect of a period of absence from duty as may be determined by the Minister with the concurrence of the Minister for the Public Service;".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
|
|
|
This Order prescribes rates of pay for the various ranks of the Garda Síochána and amends previous provisions regarding pension deduction and other stoppages from pay.
