I, ALBERT REYNOLDS, Minister for Industry and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and the Energy (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1981 ( S.I. No. 289 of 1981 ), and for the purpose of giving effect to Community Directives 78/1015/EEC,1 80/780/EEC,2 in so far as those Directives apply to the type approval of motor vehicles, trailers and components, hereby make the following Regulations:--

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1982, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1982.

2. The European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1978 ( S.I. No. 305 of 1978 ), are hereby amended by the substitution of the following Schedule for Schedule 1 (inserted by the European Communities) (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1981 (S.I. No. 420 of 1981):

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the European Communities (Motor Vehicles Type Approval) Regulations, 1981, so as to implement those provisions of certain EEC Directives relating to type approval of motor cycles and two-wheeled motor vehicles with or without a side-car and to their fitting on such vehicles.
