I, RAY BURKE, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 16 (2) of the Jurisdiction of Courts (Maritime Conventions) Act, 1989 (No. 5 of 1989), hereby order as follows: |
||
1. This Order may be cited as the Jurisdiction of Courts (Maritime Conventions) Act, 1989 (Commencement) Order, 1989. |
||
2. The Jurisdiction of Courts (Maritime Conventions) Act, 1989 , shall come into operation on the 17th day of April, 1990. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
This order fixes 17 April 1990 as the date on which the Jurisdiction of Courts (Maritime Conventions) Act, 1989 comes into operation. On that date the Convention relating to the arrest of seagoing ships and the Convention on certain rules concerning civil jurisdiction in matters of collision will come into force for Ireland. In addition the admiralty jurisdiction of the Cork Circuit Court will effectively be repealed with effect from 17 April 1990. |
