INFECTIOUS DISEASES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1996. |

The Minister for Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 29 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947) and by section 31 of the said Act, as amended by section 34 of the Health Act, 1953 (No. 26 of 1953), hereby makes the following regulations :- |

Citation | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations, 1996. |

Interpretation | ||
2. In these Regulations the expression "Principal Regulations" means the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1981 (S.I. No. 390 of 1981). |

Amendment | ||
3. (1) The Schedule to the Principal Regulations as amended by the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations, 1985 ( S.I. No. 268 of 1985 ) and the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations, 1988 ( S.I. No. 288 of 1988 ) is hereby amended by the insertion therein before "Diphtheria" of "Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease" and "nv Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease". |

(2) Article 14 is hereby amended by the insertion of "(1)" after 14 and by the insertion of the following paragraphs after paragraph (b). |

"(2) (a) All cases of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease and nv Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease which are definitively diagnosed must be reported to the medical officer of health. |
||
(b) Neither the provisions of this Article or of any Article in the Principal Regulations as amended shall apply to suspected cases of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease nor nv Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease." |

Explanatory Note |
||
These Regulations designate Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease and the nv Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease as infectious diseases under the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1981 (S.I. No. 390 of 1981). These Regulations require that all cases which are definitively diagnosed be notified to the medical officer of the appropriate health board and to the Minister. |
