The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 12 of the Social Welfare (No. 2; Act, 1995 (No. 23 of 1995), hereby orders as follows: |

1. This Order may be cited as Social Welfare (No. 2) Act, 1995 (Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10(1) and 10(2)) (Commencement) Order, 1997. |

Commencement | ||
2. Sections 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 (1) and 10 (2) of the Social Welfare (No. 2) Act, 1995 shall come into operation on 21st day of April, 1997. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||
This Order provides that sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10(1) and 10(2) will come into operation on the 21st day of April, 1997. |
||
These sections provide the necessary changes in the Social Welfare Code so as to ensure that a spouse will not be disadvantaged in terms of his or her social welfare entitlements as a result of his or her legal status being changed from married, separated or deserted to divorced. |
