I, NOEL DEMPSEY, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving further effect to Directive 2005/64/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 October 2005 1 and Directive 2006/40 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 June 20062 in so far as they relate to the entry into service of motor vehicles, hereby make the following regulations-

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Mechanically Propelled Vehicle Entry into Service) (Amendment) Regulations 2008.
|
|
|
2. The European Communities (Mechanically Propelled Vehicle Entry Into Service) Regulations 2007 ( S.I. No. 448 of 2007 ) are amended by substituting for Schedules 1 and 2 the following:

EXPLANATORY NOTE
|

These Regulations amend the European Communities (Mechanically Propelled Vehicle Entry into Service) Regulation 2007 ( S.I. No. 448 of 2007 ) by substituting new schedules for Schedules 1 and 2. The 2007 Regulations outline the requirements to be satisfied in relation to motor vehicle type-approval matters for the first registration of new commercial vehicles in Ireland. Schedules 1 and 2 to these Regulations specify the EU motor vehicle type-approval directives for which certificates of conformity must be available for such a vehicle in order to put it into service in Ireland. These Regulations amend the Schedules by the inclusion of two further directives; Directives 2005/64/EC and 2006/40/EC.
