I, BRENDAN HOWLIN, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012 (No. 37 of 2012), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012 (Commencement of Single Public Service Pension Scheme) Order 2012.

2. The 1st day of January 2013 is appointed as the day on which Part 2 (in so far as it is not already in operation) of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012 (No. 37 of 2012) comes into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).

This Order commences, with effect from 1 January 2013, the Single Public Service Pension Scheme, as provided for in Part 2 of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012 . New recruits to public service employment on and from the commencement date will be members of the Scheme.
