CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1923 CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1923 - LONG TITLE An Act to amend the law in Northern Ireland with respect to offences against persons under the age of sixteen, and with respect to penalties under section thirteen of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1885. [10th May 1923] Consent of young person to be no defence. CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1923 - SECT 1 1. It shall be no defence to a charge or indictment for an indecent assault on a child or young person under the age of [seventeen] to prove that he or she consented to the act of indecency. CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1923 - SECT 2 Amendment of ss.5 & 6 of 1885 c.69 as to defence of reasonable belief. 2. Reasonable cause to believe that a girl was of or above the age of [seventeen] years shall not be a defence to a charge under sub-section (1) of section five or under section six of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1885 (in this Act referred to as "the principal Act"). The limit of time mentioned in the second proviso to section five of the principal Act, ... shall be [twelve] months after the commission of the offence. CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1923 - SECT 3 Amendment of penalties under s.13 of principal Act. 3. Any person who is convicted of an offence against section thirteen of the principal Act (which relates to summary proceedings against brothel keepers, &c.) shall be liable on summary conviction (a)to a fine not exceeding one hundred pounds or to imprisonment. ... for a term not exceeding three months; and (b)on a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding two hundred and fifty pounds or to imprisonment. ... for a term not exceeding six months; Construction and short title. CRIMINAL LAW AMENDMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1923 - SECT 4 4.Subs.(1) rep. by 1954 c.33 (NI) s.48(1) sch.; subs.(2) rep. by SLR (NI) 1952 (3) This Act may be cited as the Criminal Law Amendment Act (Northern Ireland), 1923; and the Criminal Law Amendment Acts, 1885 to 1912, and this Act may, to the extent to which they apply to Northern Ireland, be cited together as the Criminal Law Amendment Acts (Northern Ireland), 1885 to 1923.
