The Department of Education makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 34 of and paragraph 1 of Schedule 1 to the Education (Northern Ireland) Order 1998(1).
1. These Regulations may be cited as the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (Constitution) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 8th September 2014.
2. (1) The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (Constitution) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001(2) are amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) and (3).
(2) In regulation 8 (term of office), in paragraph (1) at the beginning insert "Subject to regulation 8A,".
(3) After regulation 8 insert-
"8A. (1) The term of office of a member whose term of office is due to expire on 14th October 2014 shall be extended for a period of one year.
(2) Where the term of office has been extended under paragraph (1), the reference to "four years" in regulation 6(5) shall be read as if it were a reference to "five years".".

These Regulations amend the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (Constitution) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 to extend the term of office of Council members whose term would otherwise have ended on 14 October 2014 by a further year.
