The complainant has requested information about the travel expenses of James Harding, the Director of News and Current Affairs from 1 January 2014 to the date of the request. The BBC refused to comply with the request under section 14 FOIA. The Commissioner’s decision is that the BBC has incorrectly applied section 14 FOIA to the request. The Commissioner requires the public authority to respond to the request, either by disclosing the requested information or explaining why an exemption applies to prevent disclosure. The public authority must take these steps within 35 calendar days of the date of this decision notice. Failure to comply may result in the Commissioner making written certification of this fact to the High Court pursuant to section 54 of the Act and may be dealt with as a contempt of court.
