18 January 2016, Central government
The complainant requested information relating to cost applications in R v Coulson and Others (aka “the phone hacking trial”). The Commissioner’s decision is that the Attorney General’s Office has applied section 32 (court records) and 42 (legal professional privilege) appropriately. The Commissioner also considers that the Attorney General’s Office was correct to state that, on the balance of probabilities, it does not hold recorded information in relation to part of the request. The Commissioner does not require the Attorney General’s Office to take any further steps as a result of this decision.
