The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the European Communities (Designation) Order 1977 and shall come into operation on 30th June 1977.
(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
2. For the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 the government department specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order is hereby designated in relation to the matters specified in column 2 of that Schedule and in relation to anything supplemental or incidental to the matters so specified.

This Order designates the Commissioners of Customs and Excise to exercise powers to make regulations conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, in relation to customs matters arising under the Community Treaties.
