SEX DISCRIMINATION

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 10(3) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1986 ("the Act"), hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the Sex Discrimination Act 1986 (Commencement) Order 1986.
2. Sections 7 and 8 of, and Part III of the Schedule to, the Act shall come into operation to the extent that they relate to the repeals set out in the Schedule to this Order on 27th February 1987.
3. Section 7(3) of the Act, to the extent that it provides for the amendment of section 89(9)(a) of the Factories Act 1961 (by substituting for the words from "no woman" to "young person" the words "no young person shall be employed"), shall also come into operation on 27th February 1987.

This Order brings into operation on 27th February 1987 the provisions in the Sex Discrimination Act 1986 which relate to the repeal of the Baking Industry (Hours of Work) Act 1954 and to the amendment or repeal of legislation containing restrictions on working hours and conditions of women other than the Hours of Employment (Conventions) Act 1936 (c.22) (which imposes restrictions on the employment of women at night in industrial undertakings).
