The M20 Motorway (Maidstone East Interchange) Connecting Roads Scheme 1987

Coming into force

24th August 1987

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by section 16 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1.  For the purpose of connecting the motorway with other highways the Secretary of State is authorised to provide along the routes described in the schedule hereto seven special roads for the use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

2.  The centre lines of the special roads are indicated by the heavy black lines which are numbered 1 to 7 on the deposited plan.

3.  The special roads shall become trunk roads on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

4.  In this Scheme-

(i)"the motorway"

means the special road to be provided in pursuance of the Mid Kent Motorway M20 (Maidstone- Chegworth Section) Scheme 1981(3);

(ii)"the deposited plan"

means the plan folio numbered RSE M20/5/65/1/2 marked "The M20 Motorway (Maidstone East Interchange) Connecting Roads Scheme 1987", signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(iii)"the special roads"

means the special roads which the Secretary of State is authorised by this scheme to provide.

5.  This Scheme shall come into force on 24th August 1987 and may be cited as the M20 Motorway (Maidstone East Interchange) Connecting Roads Scheme 1987.

THE SCHEDULETHE ROUTES OF THE SPECIAL ROADS

At the junction of the motorway with the M20 Motorway (Maidstone Bypass) and the Ashford Road (A2020/A20 trunk road) at Maidstone East-

(a)a route to connect the eastbound carriageway, and a route to connect the westbound carriageway of the M20 Motorway (Maidstone Bypass) with the roundabout referred to in (b) below (these two routes being respectively given the reference numbers 1 and 2 on the deposited plan);

(b)a roundabout centred on the motorway in the vicinity of Silver Hill (this route being given the reference number 3 on the deposited plan);

(c)a route to connect the eastbound carriageway, and a route to connect the westbound carriageway of the motorway with the roundabout referred to in (b) above (these two routes being respectively given the reference numbers 4 and 5 on the deposited plan);

(d)two routes to connect the roundabout referred to in (b) above with a roundabout to be constructed as part of the Ashford Road (A2020/A20 trunk road) (these two routes being respectively given the reference numbers 6 and 7 on the deposited plan).
