Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, which does not extend to Northern Ireland, prescribes the fees payable by the holders of certificates under section 6 of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (scientific procedure establishments) and under section 7 of the Act (breeding and supplying establishments).

For scientific procedure establishments the fee is made up of £100 plus £90 for each personal licence holder whose place of primary availability is the establishment in question. The £100 element is not increased, but there is an increase of £23 in respect of personal licence holders. No additional fee is payable in respect of a scientific procedure establishment which is also a breeding and supplying establishment. For a breeding and supplying establishment which is not also a scientific procedure establishment the fee is £500. Breeding and supplying establishments have not previously been licensable.

The Order also revokes the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (Fees) Order 1986.
