In exercise of the powers conferred by section 129(1) of the Education Reform Act 1988 ("the Act")(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Science hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Education (Designated Institutions) (Amendment) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 4th April 1990.
2. The Education (Designated Institutions) Order 1989(2) is hereby amended by the deletion from Part 2 of the Schedule thereto of the institution named the College of St Paul and St Mary and the insertion in that Part, at the appropriate place in alphabetical order, of the institution named Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education incorporating the College of St Paul and St Mary (being an institution appearing to the Secretary of State to fall within subsection (2) of section 129 of the Act).

This Order amends as from 4th April 1990 the Education (Designated Institutions) Order 1989 by removing the College of St Paul and St Mary (Cheltenham) from the list of institutions in that Order designated as eligible to receive funds from the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council and adding the Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education incorporating the College of St Paul and St Mary.
The amendment is required in consequence of the merger of the College of St Paul andSt Mary on 4th April 1990 with the Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology (Higher Education) to form a new institution called the Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education incorporating the College of St Paul and St Mary.
