Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend Regulations having effect under the Food Safety Act 1990, the Natural Mineral Waters Regulations 1985 made under the European Communities Act 1972 and the Food Labelling Regulations 1984 and the Food Labelling (Scotland) Regulations 1984 which have effect under both those Acts. Regulation 2(1) removes from the Regulations listed in the Schedule the specified provisions in those Regulations which exempt from their application supplies of food under Government contracts to Her Majesty's forces or food supplied for consumption by a visiting force, within the meaning of the Visiting Forces Act 1952 (c. 67, as amended by the Criminal Justice Act 1988, c. 33, section 170 and paragraph 14 of Schedule 15). Those Regulations will now apply to such supplies of food.

Regulation 2(2) is a transitional provision for food within the scope of the exemptions removed by regulation 2(1) which has been prepared and labelled for sale before 16th November 1992, the date on which these Regulations come into force.
