Whereas it appears to the Secretary of State for Wales that the persons referred to in the Schedule to this Order are persons exercising functions of a public nature;
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 6(1)(o) of the Welsh Language Act 1993(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Welsh Language Schemes (Public Bodies) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 15th August 1996.
2. The persons referred to in the Schedule to this Order are specified for the purposes of Part II of the Welsh Language Act 1993.

Under Part II of the Welsh Language Act 1993 ("the Act") the Welsh Language Board may give a notice in writing to any public body to produce a Welsh language scheme. Section 6 of the Act lists various public bodies for the purposes of Part II of the Act.
This Order specifies further public bodies for the purposes of Part II of the Act.
