In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 583(3) of the Education Act 1996(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Education Act 1996 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1996.
2. Section 317(6) of the Education Act 1996 shall come into force on 1st January 1997.

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings section 317(6) of the Education Act 1996 (which requires the annual reports of county, voluntary or grant-maintained schools to include certain information relating to disabled pupils) into force on 1st January 1997.
Almost all the provisions of the Education Act 1996 came into force on 1st November 1996; however a small number of provisions (of which section 317(6) is one) come into force on a day appointed by Order.
