EXTRADITION

The Extradition Act 2003 (Part 1 Designated Authorities) Order 2003

  Made 1st December 2003 
  Laid before Parliament 3rd December 2003 
  Coming into force 1st January 2004 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2(9) and (10) of the Extradition Act 2003[1], hereby makes the following Order:

     1. This Order may be cited as the Extradition Act 2003 (Part 1 Designated Authorities) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 1st January 2004.

    
2. The National Criminal Intelligence Service and the Crown Agent of the Crown Office are hereby designated for the purposes of Part 1 of the Extradition Act 2003.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


Under the provisions of the Extradition Act 2003, a Part 1 warrant received from a category 1 territory must be certified by the designated authority before it can be executed in the United Kingdom. This Order designates both the National Criminal Intelligence Service and the Crown Agent of the Crown Office in Scotland as designated authorities, which allows both those bodies to certify Part 1 warrants in the United Kingdom.
