IMMIGRATION

The Asylum Support (Amendment) Regulations 2006

  Made 13th March 2006 
  Laid before Parliament 17th March 2006 
  Coming into force 10th April 2006 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 166(3) of, and paragraphs 1 and 3(a) of Schedule 8 to, the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999[1], makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement
     1. These Regulations may be cited as the Asylum Support (Amendment) Regulations 2006 and shall come into force on 10th April 2006.

Kind and levels of support for essential living needs
    
2. For the table at regulation 10(2) of the Asylum Support Regulations 2000[2] substitute:

"TABLE
Qualifying couple £63.07
Lone parent aged 18 or over £40.22
Single person aged 25 or over £40.22
Single person aged at least 18 but under 25 £31.85
Person aged at least 16 but under 18 (except a member of a qualifying couple) £34.60
Person aged under 16 £45.58".


Revocation of the Asylum Support (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 2005
     3. The Asylum Support (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 2005[3] are revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations amend regulation 10(2) of the Asylum Support Regulations 2000 by increasing the cash amounts payable, as a general rule, in respect of a person's essential living needs. These changes take effect from 10th April 2006 and on that date the Asylum Support (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 2005 which set out the amounts previously payable, are revoked.
