The A1 Motorway (Leeming to Scotch Corner Connecting Roads) Scheme 2013

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2):

1.  This Scheme may be cited as the A1 Motorway (Leeming to Scotch Corner Connecting Roads) Scheme 2013 and shall come into force on 28th November 2013.

2.  In this Scheme:

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway:

(2) -

(i)"connecting road" means a special road along a route described in Schedule 1 to this Scheme;

(ii)"the plan" means the plan numbered HA 16/MP/030, marked "The A1 Motorway (Leeming to Scotch Corner Connecting Roads) Scheme 2013", comprising a plan folio cover, a location plan and a site plan, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at ODPM-DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA; and

(iii)"the special roads" means each connecting road.

3.  The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

5.  Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

SCHEDULE 1ROUTES OF THE CONNECTING ROADS

The routes of the connecting roads are routes in the District of Richmondshire, in the County of North Yorkshire as follows:

(1) Junction at Scotch Corner

One route to connect the northbound carriageway of the A1 Motorway with a roundabout at the existing Scotch Corner Junction (south facing slip roads), (the special road along this route to be given the reference number 1 on the Plan in the deposited plan) and one route to connect the southbound carriageway of the A1 Motorway with a roundabout at the existing Scotch Corner Junction (south facing slip roads), (the special road along this route to be given the reference number 2 on the Plan in the deposited plan).

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order is to re-introduce connecting routes required for the construction of the A1 Motorway on and off south facing slip roads at Scotch Corner to connect to the previously Made Scheme "The A1 Motorway (Dishforth to Barton Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 2008". These routes were removed from the Scheme in the Secretary of States' Decision Letter (31st March 2008) following the 2006 Public Inquiry.
