The Secretary of State for Health makes the following Regulations, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 175 and 272(7) of the National Health Service Act 2006(1).

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) (Amendment) Regulations 2014 and come into force on 7th July 2014.

Amendments to the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Regulations 2011

2.  (1)  The National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Regulations 2011(2) are amended as follows.

(2) In regulation 23 (overseas visitors exempt from charges for treatment the need for which arose during the visit only)-

(a)in paragraph (1), after sub-paragraph (d), insert-

"(da)an individual who is in the United Kingdom as part of the Commonwealth Games Family during the relevant period.";

(b)after paragraph (2), insert-

"(3) For the purposes of this regulation-

"Commonwealth Games Family" means the group of individuals who are taking part or are involved in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and who have been given a letter code for the purpose of receiving free treatment the need for which arose during the visit to the United Kingdom;

"the relevant period" means the period-

(a)

starting with 7th July 2014, and

(b)

ending with 7th August 2014."

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

Regulation 2 of these Regulations amends the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Regulations 2011 to provide for an exemption from charging for individuals who are part of the Commonwealth Games Family during the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 2014. The exemption applies to services the need for which arises during the individual's visit to the United Kingdom and is limited to the period starting 7th July 2014 and ending 7th August 2014 (inclusive).

A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
