The Secretary of State, in exercise of the power conferred by section 19(2) of the Education and Adoption Act 2016(1), makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education and Adoption Act 2016 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2016.
2. Section 1 (coasting schools) of the Education and Adoption Act 2016 comes into force, for the purposes of making regulations, on 5th September 2016.

These Regulations are the second commencement Regulations made under the Education and Adoption Act 2016 ("the Act").
These Regulations appoint 5th September 2016 as the day for the coming into force of section 1 of the Act, for the purposes of making regulations. This will enable the Secretary of State to make regulations which define "coasting" in relation to a school.

The following provisions of the Education and Adoption Act 2016 (c. 6) were brought into force by commencement Regulations before the date of these Regulations.
