The M48 Motorway (Severn Bridge Half Marathon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2021

Made

16th August 2021

Coming into force

27th August 2021

The Secretary of State for Transport, being the traffic authority for the M48 Motorway and connecting roads, is satisfied that traffic on lengths of that motorway in South Gloucestershire, the County of Gloucestershire and the County of Monmouthshire should be prohibited for the purpose of facilitating the holding of a relevant event.

The Secretary of State is further satisfied that it is not reasonably practicable for the event to be held otherwise than on a road.

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 16A(2)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984( 1), hereby makes the following Order:-

“the slip roads” mean (i) the eastbound entry slip road at M48 Junction 2; and (ii) the westbound entry slip road at M48 Junction 1;

“the tip of the nosing” means the first point where an entry slip road joins the carriageway of a motorway or the last point where an exit slip road leaves the carriageway of a motorway;

“event” means the Severn Bridge Half Marathon; and

“the event period” means a period of 5 hours starting at 07.30 hours on Sunday 29th August 2021.

3.  Subject to article 4, no person shall, during the event period, cause or permit any vehicle to enter or proceed on the M48 and the slip roads.

4.  Article 3 shall apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs and shall not apply to:-

(a) a vehicle being used for police, traffic officer, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes;

(b) anything done at the direction of, or with the permission of, a constable or traffic officer in uniform.
