The Social Security Additional Payments (First Qualifying Day) Regulations 2023

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(4) and (5) of the Social Security (Additional Payments) Act 2023( 1).

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security Additional Payments (First Qualifying Day) Regulations 2023 and come into force on 17th April 2023.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Means-tested additional payments: the first qualifying day

2.  25th February 2023 is the first qualifying day for the purpose of the means-tested additional payments under section 1 of the Social Security (Additional Payments) Act 2023.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations specify the first qualifying day for the purpose of the means-tested additional payments under section 1 of the Social Security (Additional Payments) Act 2023 (“ the Act”).

The specified day is 25th February 2023. As provided for by section 1(5) of the Act, this falls before the day on which the Act, and these regulations, came into force.

A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, public or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
