The Care Standards Act 2000 (Commencement No. 9) (Wales) Order 2002

  Made 25th April 2002 

The National Assembly for Wales makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 118 (5), (6) and 122 of the Care Standards Act 2000[1]:

Citation, interpretation and application
     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Care Standards Act 2000 (Commencement No. 9) (Wales) Order 2002.

    (2) In this Order a reference to a section is to a section of the Care Standards Act 2000.

    (3) This Order applies in relation to Wales.

Appointed day
    
2.  - (1) 30th April 2002 is the day appointed for the coming into force of sections 56 to 62, 64(2) to (4) and 65, for the purpose only of the exercise of any power to make orders, regulations or rules or prepare and publish codes of practice.

    (2) 30th April 2002 is the day appointed for the coming into force of section 71 in so far as it is not already in force.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order appoints 30th April 2002 as the day for the coming into force of certain provisions of Part IV of the Care Standards Act ("the Act") to the extent that the provisions confer powers to, in relation to Wales, make orders, regulations or rules, or prepare and publish codes of practice.

The provisions are about the registration of social care workers (sections 56 and 60 of the Act); the use of the title "social worker" (section 61); codes of practice about standards of conduct and practice expected of social care workers and their employers (section 62); social work qualifications obtained outside Wales (section 64); and post-registration training of social care workers (section 65).

The Order also appoints 30th April 2002 as the day for the coming into force of section 71 of the Act, in so far as it is not already in force. Section 71 makes provision about rules made under Part IV.
