AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION OF PRISONERS.
|
|
|

BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS:—
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Lock-ups.
|
1.—A prisoner may be detained temporarily in a lock-up provided in a Garda Síochána station or in any other place, being a place designated for the purpose by the Minister for Justice,—
|
|
|
( a ) while in transit from a prison to a court for trial or on adjournment or remand;
|
|
|
( b ) while a case in which he is involved is at hearing;
|
|
|
( c ) for a period of not more than forty-eight hours while awaiting removal to a prison on conviction or remand.
|
|
Repeal.
|
2.—Section 23 of the General Prisons (Ireland) Act, 1877, is hereby repealed.

Short title, collective citation and construction.
|
3.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Prisons Act; 1956.
|
|
|
(2) The Prisons (Ireland) Acts, 1826 to 1933; and this Act may be cited together as the Prisons Acts, 1826 to 1956 and shall be constructed as one.
