EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings section 3 of the Transport Act 2000 into force on 1st May 2001. That enactment makes it a criminal offence if a person provides air traffic services in respect of a managed area save where those services are excepted by that section or the subject of an exemption or a licence granted under Chapter I of Part I of the Act.

It also brings section 265 into force on 1st July 2001. That section extends to England and Wales only and amends the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 to provide that a vehicle with no more than 8 passenger seats provided for hire with the services of a driver which carries passengers otherwise than at separate fares must, with certain exceptions, be licensed as a private hire vehicle.
